March 30, 2014 I joined the training for Zumba(R) Kids + Zumba(R) Kids Jr and got my license to teach. The training was held at Brewing Point Dance Studio in Quezon City with ZES (Zumba Education Specialist) George Iu. It was a whole day of fun, dancing and playing together with fellow ZIN (Zumba Instructor Network) members who are as much passionate and excited as I am with teaching kids.
In the morning we were ask to forget our age and transform to be a 4-6 year olds and just play, jump around, dance and follow the teacher. The inner kid in me awakened and I enjoyed every minute of the 1 hour Zumba(R) Kids Jr sample class. After the sample class the lecture proper begun and I learned that their is an increasing problem in obesity specially in children statistically, 8 out of 10 children are obese. The call to be active among kids is much more in need now-a-days than ever before.
I also had the privilege to meet and get to know a celebrity, Ms. Regine Tolentino who was also my batch-mate.
After our lunch break we then transformed to 7-11 year olds for the Zumba(R) Kids sample class. This time the class has more intensity and a bit more hip-hop. I learned that the approach for 3-6 years old which are the Zumba(R) Kids Jr is different than the approach for 7-11 year olds which is the Zumba(R) Kids.
I’m happy that I am able to find a niche market for Zumba which are for Kids. Teaching kids need a lot of patience and passion for fun. My inner child wears a huge smile whenever I dance and play with the kids.
