APHCA International Hair & Makeup Competition

Last November 7, 2011 together with mother Ricky Reyes and 35 Philippine delegates we went to Macau to participate  and compete in the 15th APHCA(Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association) International Competition. The venue for the event was at the Venetian Hotel & Convention Center. Three years back the we also joined Ricky Reyes in Guangzhou, China for the same competition my blog post about it: Beauty Tour with mother Ricky.

The APHCA(Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association) participated by 40 different countries all over Asia Pacific some of them are: Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, China, Taipei, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Australia, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Macau, Indonesia and the Philippines. I noticed that their are a lot of countries who joined and participated these year than 3 years ago including 6 from Europe. I saw Spain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, France and many more. According to the organizers the purpose of the competition is to stimulate the cooperation and development among the salon industry players and as a result to unite the Hairstyle and Cosmetology industries in Asia Pacific region and uplift their skills to next level.

Or very own Ricky Reyes is the president of the association. Every year the Philippines compete in these prestigious international hair competition and we do not go home empty handed. These year Stephani Ilagan won 1st runner up in the Bridal Make-up category, while Nitz, Ester Garcia, Peping de Guzman, Antonio Agustin, Ronald Tuano, Vicente Hisola, Racquel Pangilaga (all from Manila and Luzon) and our very own Giovanni Luage (Expression Salon-ILIGAN CITY) and my brother Daniel Lois Buddy Congson received honorable mentions for various categories such as Evening Hairstyle, Evening Make-up, Bridal Make-up, Cut and Creative Color.

Initially, I went there to be a judge in one of the categories but I became an impromptu model for my brother, Daniel Lois Buddy Congson for the evening make-up and for Peping de Guzman for the evening hairstyle booth gained honorable mentions for their superb work. It was a very different experience for me this year really an eye opening. I learned that models work in these kind of competitions are no joke, they have to bare wearing outrageous outfits, super high heels,  big and heavy head piece, and artistic high fashion hair color and hair style. They need to carry and present the look matched with what the hairstylist or make-up artist envisioned it to be.  No runway walk needed for models here, they just need to stay put and when judges approach them they have to show the work of art make by their hairstylist & make-up artist as creatively as they can possibly do it.

Judging these huge event is very different, they have judges from participating countries and assign them to different categories each of the judges has 10+ lucky cards, and the model who has been given the most number of lucky cards will win the category.

I was really at awe with the creativity of hairstylist and make-up artist coming from different countries and culture.

So, ’til next year we might go to either Korea or Cambodia they’ve yet to finalize who will host 2012 APHCA Hair Olympics

N.Y.C. Cosmetic Smooch Proof Lipstick

A cousin from Cebu gave me this lipstick and I super love it. My cousin calls it her kissing lipstick (hehehehehe) it’s the Smooch Proof Lipstick from N.Y.C. Cosmetics. Whatever you drink or eat it still stays on and looks good.

Maybelline Pulse Pefection- Vibrating Mascara

My Maybelline Pulse Perfection Waterproof Vibrating Mascarra is my new favorite mascara. Now you ask Vibrating?, YES!! the stick vibrates once you push the button. And why is that? so that the mascarra will be evenly distributed and will not make lumps on the lashes and will imitate the strokes of a professional make up artist. The result, a perfectly even coated lashes just like professionals do.

The  Maybelline Pulse Perfection Waterproof Vibrating Mascarra was weird  to use at first but eventually I got used to it and saw the difference it made on my lashes. It is very easy to use and it makes my lashes spread thus making it looked  bolder and longer.Plus I don’t need to put a lot of mascara because it coats the lashes evenly in a bliss. Definitely a good find and a good quality product worthy to be inside my kikay “make-up” kit. Now I don’t need to put in two coats of mascara unlike before I used to put in white mascara for boldness and length then the black one to coat the lashes evenly. Now there’s only one Maybelline Pulse Perfection waterprof and vibrating mascara.

MAC Tartan Tale Eyeshadow Palette

Last Holiday season my best friend, Sharirose got me the MAC Tartan Tale Eyeshadow Palette. I love the color combination of the Eyeshadow Palette I chose because I can use it on a daily basis and also during night outs when I do my smokey eyes make-up.

I like the checkered style design of the palette. A small amount can go a very long way and it stays on your eyelids all day. It also comes with a brush that I love. Usually the brushes they put on eyeshadow palettes is not that good quality and is very stiff. MAC Eyeshadow Palette’s free brush is not super soft put not too stiff either it’s just right texture perfect in putting on the eyeshadow.

Eyeshadow Palette’s color combinations are yellowish, gold, and brown with matte black silver and white for highlights. My favorite combinations are silver with brown for daily use and silver black for night outs. I also like using one color sometimes i love the yellowish color.

The MAC Eyeshadow palette is very handy also perfect for travelling and it fits my kikay kit perfectly.

Victoria Secret Cheek Tint

I’ve been using Maybelline Mineral Blush Soft Mauve and it works perfectly for me. My mom gave me a Victoria Secret Cheek Tint one day and I tried it. I got curious at first because it looked like a mini stick deodorant. It has a sleek and unique design. Like a stick deodorant you turn the roll and out comes the red stick.

I applied it at the apples of my cheeks and find the tint natural looking. It gives my cheeks a rosy natural look. The tint is oil base and it gives a shiny glossy appearance. I like experimenting and trying out new make-up. This Victoria Secret Cheek Tint will definitely stay inside my make up kit.

Tony Moly Eyeliner

Tony Moly Eyeliner is one of my newest addition to my make up collection. I like my eyeliners black to have the illusion of a smaller eyes. I’ve been using liquid eyeliner and I find it time consuming and once I make a mistake it’s very hard to undo it. And I need a lot of practice to perfect the application.

A friend recently had a trip to Korea and offered me a Tony Moly Eyeliner. I decided to give it a try since my liquid eyeliner already expired and dried up. I like the Tony Moly Eyeliner because it has a gel type texture and it comes with a mini brush. I only need a very small amount and it’s good already.

All I do is deep my mini brush lightly and remove the excess gel. I follow the contour of my lash line and I draw a thin line. Then I add another layer of eyeliner at the outer part of my eyelids so that it will appear darker. Tony Moly Eyeliner is a keeper for me I love the dark black line it makes and somedays all I need is to put my eyeliner, blush and lipstick and I’m already good to go.

Skin Food Concealer vs MAC Concealer

I recently had my second visit at Davao TLC Shop Fab Finds with fashion and beauty bloggers Brendel Balaga, Ria Jose and Dulce Lada. From my previous visit I bought Skin Food Peach Sake BB Cream and Skin Food Peach Sake Pore Serum. I saw that Skin Food Peach Sake has a Concealer and I decided to buy it and give it a try.

I love my MAC Concealer Studio Finish NC30. I’ve been using it since, forever. hehehehe It’s cream base. You don’t need to put a lot. It’s like an eraser once I put and spread it in my face my blemishes fades away like it wasn’t there. And it fits my skin tone perfectly.

I gave the Skin Food Peach Sake Concealer #1 a try. It didn’t quit cover my blemishes because it’s texture is very light. Unlike my MAC concealer one little wipe and wala! dark spots and blemishes gone. For now, I’ll stick with my MAC Concealer. Of course the result varies in skin type, skin tone and condition of your skin. This is just base on my own experience and judgement.

Skin Food Peach Sake Pore BB Cream

My shopping and beauty soul sisters, Ria Jose and Brendel Balaga brought me to this little cool place named Davao TLC shop. This little cool shop is selling BB CREAMS and make-ups from Korea. They suggested I try SKIN FOOD BB CREAM which Ria is also using her take on the SKIN FOOD BB CREAM HERE.

I’m a BB CREAM user already and I have tried MAYBELLINE BB CREAM and 3W BB CREAM. It’s time to move on to the next best BB CREAM according to Brendel Balaga, and so I did. I’ve used it for two days and I’m super loving it. The difference of SKIN FOOD PEACH BB CREAM with SPF 20 among the other BB creams I used is it’s sweet scent and it’s also has a much  lighter feel on the skin.

Yes the SPF is lower than my Maybelling BB cream’s SPF 26 but I’m not always exposed to the sun. My work is indoors so it’s totally fine for me.

Urban Decay Eye Pencil

The URBAN DECAY 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil ZERO is a must have for all ladies. Especially during days you don’t want to put a lot of make up on. A quick splash of blush on and a glide of this awesome product plus lip gloss and your done.

I love this product because I have been searching for a good BLACK EYELINER that with a slight glide it will already appear dark. I’ve used and tried a lot of different eyeliners already and URBAN DECAY ZERO is the best among them all. One quick and light glide and wala!  bold dark black line that will make my eyes appear smaller.

This is one of my favorite make-up product. And my first try of URBAN DECAY. And now I wonder how about their other product. hmmmmmmm have you tried other URBAN DECAY product?

MAC Lipliner

I was recently given a MAC Lipliner and it is just now that I realize the magic it brings to your lips. I know of Lipliners existence and I have one but it’s color do not fit me well. With my new MAC Lipliner Chicory the color blends in to my lips as if I’m not wearing any lipstick or lipliner. I love the illusion it gives of a pouty lips.

Compared to my last Lipliner MAC Lipliner is perfect because one light stroke and wala!!! perfect line. It is just like a color pencil and I’m drawing an outline on my lips.

MAC Lipliner Chicory has a brownish reddish color reflect and it’s just perfect for my fair complexion.

Now, my everyday look is not complete with out putting on MAC Lipliner Chicory first before putting my MAC lipstick.

My best friends cousin, Mercy Dichosa who is base in Chicago recently went home and had a 3 weeks vacation. We instantly clicked an share a lot of laughs, drinks, and a little dance moves.
